Description
Rondson AM-4240D 4 Zone Matrix Amplifier — 4 x 240W Class D with Media Player, Bluetooth, FM Tuner and RS232 for Multi Zone Commercial PA
One Amplifier. Four Independent Zones. Zero Compromise.
Hotels do not want gym music leaking into the conference suite. Shopping centres need promotional announcements on the ground floor while the food court plays something else entirely. Sports centres cannot have pool splashes interrupting the studio soundtrack.
The Rondson AM-4240D exists because conventional amplifiers force you to choose: lots of power but no zoning, or zoning but no power, or power and zoning but no matrix routing, or matrix routing but no onboard sources, or onboard sources but no RS232, or RS232 but no priority override.
This unit has all of it. In 1U.
4 x 240W Class D. Built to Run All Day, Every Day.
Class D is not new. What makes the AM-4240D different is how the power is deployed. Each of the four zones has its own 240W amplifier stage. Not shared. Not bridged. Not a single power supply trying to feed four hungry outputs simultaneously.
| Specification | Value |
|---|---|
| Output power per zone | 240W |
| Total system power | 960W |
| Amplifier class | Class D |
| Cooling | Active fan with thermal cutout |
| Protection | Thermal, overload, short circuit |
A shopping centre running background music across four retail floors from 8am to 8pm will push this unit for 12 hours straight. The fan cooling and thermal protection are not marketing. They are survival.
Matrix Routing. Every Source to Every Zone. At the Same Time.
Matrix is the most misused word in commercial audio. On the AM-4240D it means what you need it to mean:
| Routing Feature | Capability |
|---|---|
| Source inputs | 5 simultaneous sources plus media player |
| Output zones | 4 fully independent |
| Routing | Any source to any zone, any combination |
| Per source volume | Independent on every input |
| Per source bass | ±10 dB at 100 Hz |
| Per source treble | ±10 dB at 10 kHz |
A sports centre running this unit can put Bluetooth from a fitness instructor’s phone into the studio, FM radio into the pool hall, USB playlist into the reception, a live microphone announcement into all four zones simultaneously, and override the lot with a fire alarm trigger — all from one 1U box.
Every Input a Commercial Venue Actually Needs
| Input | Type | Sensitivity | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| MIC/LINE 1-3 | Balanced XLR/TRS | 2.5mV–175mV / 600Ω–10kΩ | Microphones, line sources, mixer feeds |
| Phantom power | Per channel configurable | 48V | Condenser mics, active DI boxes |
| AUX 5-6 | Stereo RCA | 350mV / 10kΩ | Media players, DJ gear, satellite receivers |
| TEL input | Dedicated | 350mV / 10kΩ | Phone paging, hold music |
| Remote MIC | RJ45 | 387mV / 10kΩ | 4 zone paging microphone station |
| Priority input | Dedicated with trim | Configurable | Fire alarm, emergency trigger, scheduled alerts |
The phantom power is configurable per channel. That matters. A hotel reception might need phantom for a condenser gooseneck mic. A sports centre might not. Same amplifier. Same installation. Different configuration.
Onboard Media. No External Players. No Excuses.
External media players are the number one failure point in commercial audio. A separate Bluetooth receiver means a separate power supply, separate cables, separate mounting, separate things for staff to unplug by accident.
The AM-4240D embeds everything:
| Source | Format | Real World Use |
|---|---|---|
| USB port | WAV | Day long playlist on a £5 drive |
| SD card slot | WAV | Backup library when USB is removed |
| FM tuner | Broadcast FM | Live radio without streaming costs |
| Bluetooth | Any | Manager phone for event day music |
Load a USB stick with the restaurant playlist. Use the SD card as a backup. Tune FM for the gym. Let an event manager stream via Bluetooth for a private function. Four media options. Zero external hardware.
Speaker Outputs for Every Installation Type
| Output Format | Typical Application |
|---|---|
| 100V constant voltage | Commercial ceiling speakers, long cable runs across multiple floors |
| 70V constant voltage | US standard or legacy 70V systems |
| 4Ω low impedance | Standard passive PA speakers |
| 16Ω low impedance | High impedance passive configurations |
| Zone line outs (1-4) | 1.7V balanced feed to sub amplifiers or recording |
| Mix out | 3.95V unbalanced for subwoofer feed or master recording |
| Monitor output | Variable level for on site audio monitoring |
A hotel can run 100V ceiling speakers in the lobby and corridors, 4Ω passive cabs in the gym, 16Ω speakers in the conference room, and feed a subwoofer amplifier from the mix out — all from one 1U unit.
Priority Override. Engineered for Life Safety.
Emergency override is not a checkbox on the AM-4240D. It is a proper priority management system.
The dedicated priority input accepts a relay trigger or audio signal from a fire alarm panel, emergency alert system or scheduled announcement controller. When triggered, it cuts all programme material across designated zones at an independently set level — regardless of what the background volume was doing.
Priority level control is independently configurable for five signal paths:
MIC 1 input
Remote paging microphone (RJ45)
Telephone input
External priority input
System remote control
PA mute and music cut functions give the commissioning engineer granular control over each zone’s behaviour during priority events — silence, background reduction or source only.
RS232. Because Buildings Have Brains.
| Control Interface | Connector | Capability |
|---|---|---|
| RS232 serial | DB9 | Full bidirectional control for AMX, Crestron, Extron, KNX, BMS |
| RJ45 paging | RJ45 | Remote 4 zone paging microphone station |
| Zone line outputs | Balanced terminal | Feed to zone processors or secondary amplifiers |
A hotel with a centralised building management system can control volume, source routing, zone muting, priority triggering and status monitoring for the AM-4240D without physical access to the amplifier. Corporate campuses, hospitals and transport hubs running AV over IP or centralised control platforms integrate this unit as a native component, not an afterthought.
